California: Long Gun Registration One Step Closer

Published: 6/4/2010

On Thursday, June 3, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 1810 and Assembly Bill 2223. Both bills now join Assembly Bill 1934 in the Senate.

AB1810 was passed by a 42-29 vote. In short, this bill would establish a registration system, similar to the one currently in place for handguns, for all newly-acquired long guns. Under AB1810, the make, model and serial number of the firearm, as well as the identifying information of the purchaser, would be recorded and kept on file by the California Attorney General’s office.

If AB1810 were enacted, violent criminals would continue doing what they do now – obtain firearms through illegal means. This bill would not decrease crime but will rather have disastrous effects on the already financially unstable Golden State. AB1810 would impose additional burdens on California’s taxpayers to maintain the registration system as well as on the state’s licensed firearms dealers, small businesses who already deal with extensive business requirements.

It started the same way in Zazi Germany. First registration, then confiscation. How did the Nazis know who owned the guns? They had registration lists of all legal gun owners.

Just got a transfer to the East Coast and won't look back when I leave the land that God has forsaken!! Calif. now reminds me of the North East in the book "Atlas Shrugged."

Quite franky, at this point in time I couldn't care less about the erosion of civil liberties in California. They get what they deserve. If you cared about freedom and integrity, you wouldn't live there. This has been a long, well publicized path that has been going on there for 40 years. They keep electing the Dianne Feinsteins and Barbara, please call me senator Boxers. If you care about freedom and gun rights, move and put your electorial power to use in another state

This new law ONLY APPLIES to law abiding citizens. NO CRIMINAL WILL OBEY IT!!! GUN CONTROL DOES NOT IMPACT THE CRIMINAL!!! Don't these people in government realize that? Oh well, that's COMMYFORNIA! Too busy smokin' and tokin' to do what's right! When are the American citizens of California going to take back their state?

This (Ca. gun law) was one of many reasons we left Ca. Ca. belongs to Mexico now. Many people or firms are losing jobs/businesses if they do not speak Spanish. More friends of mine in Ca. will be moving out of Caa or would like to move out of Ca. They are tax paying citizens. I have no desire to live in Ca. because politicians in Ca. have destroyed beautiful Ca. It is going to be hell living in Ca. So, good-luck, Californians.

This is a sad day for California. This is one step closer for the govemrnet being able to take away our guns. And our Second Amendment. It is outrageous. However, the crooks can cross the state line and buy all the long guns they want. Wake up left coast.

Here we go again, more of our rights stripped away in in this socialist, liberal bleeding heart Kalifornia! We have no rights here, unless your an illegal and/or a criminal etc... I can't wait to leave!

Young people are being brain washed in schools to see firearms as "bad." Those young people are becoming elected officials that make the laws. This attitude overrides any thoughts of common sense. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would ever see so much stupity in the elected officials in this country. At 64 years of age I consider myself very lucky to have enjoyed real freedom in my younger years. I am afraid it is gone forever.

How do they have time for gun registation but do not have time to balance the budget?

Seems like CA and NY think they can run the US just because they used to be important to the entire country. I think their radical ways have changed the perception of them. It is a shame as there are a lot of good people who live there.

This is a prime example of what is wrong with the state of California and its government. We are billions of dollars in debt and the legislature wastes it's time and our money setting up a registration system for long guns and banning plastic bags. They both serve the same purpose, control of the public. Like most liberals they don't have the guts to make the hard decisions so they pretend to be doing something for "Public Safety" or "The Environment." They do this under the pretense of making the state safer. Really? What gangster is going to register his black market AK. The fact is that this is nothing more than the San Francisco anti-gun lobby led by Mark Leno, Tom Amiano, and their San Jose Puppet, Jim Bealle. As unfortunate as this is, I no longer blame the politicians. I blame their "Useful Idiots," the voters. If we really want to do something about this we need to vote these people out of office and we can't do that on just gun rights issues. We need to attack the entire record, find the issue that appeals to the person your talking to and focus on that. They may not like guns but, they may like less, the fact that shoplifting and prices will increase with a plastic bag ban. The question is What will you do when they start taking away YOUR rights. Will you mob the streets shouting "No Justice, No Peace!" or will you quietly hand them over... At this point in time I think we all know the answer.

Another socialist shot at the Constitution. California boycots Arizona for what they legislate, maybe they should be boycotted for what they legislate also. Are there any Americans in California?

Will Kalifornia ever learn?

From JMVanTress on Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:47 AM
I've seen these anti-gun schemes evolve over the last 40 years, not just in California, but all across the nation. Step by step, first there's regulation, then comes registration, and ultimately prohibition or ponfiscation. All done under the color of law to reduce crime. Wake up before the 2nd Amendment is relegated to the ashes of history!

From Old School American on Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:06 AM
Like it matters if the government knows the serial number of a gun. When someone is murdered the serial number is not left on the bullet. It would make more sense to register the grooves in the barrel. Besides, when a criminal gets a gun to kill he can use any simple HCl acid to dissolve away the serial number from his weapon since it is most likely engraved in metal. If not just scratch it off. We all know what a gun registration system is for. To make gunowners suspects in any gun-related crime causing them to just be discouraged of owning a gun and to follow up with confiscation and harassment of owners.

As a Canadian NRA member I can assure my American cousins that registration definitely leads to confiscation. This is the thin edge of the wedge, fight hard or risk going down the same terrible road as Canadadian gun owners. You only have your freedom to lose.
