Henry Rifles a Hit

Henry_Lever_Action_Youth.jpg

Approximately 25,000 hunters and shooters threw their name into the hat for a chance to win a Henry Lever Action Youth Model .22 during our November Gift Giveaway.

Accompanying the avalanche of entries we received were many heartfelt promises to give the gun to a daughter or grandson, which is exactly what Henry Repeating Arms hoped for when they donated the rifle—and 49 others—to NRA Youth Programs back in September.

It’s encouraging to see so many people who want to get kids involved in hunting and shooting, and I wanted to share just a small sampling of the touching e-mails we received from NRA members who wanted to win the gun so they could pass it on to a youngster.

“I would love to have this rifle for my son. He is 8 years old and has Asperger’s Syndrome (high-functioning Autism and ADHD). Every doctor says being outside, active, and with animals is good therapy. He loves to go to the gun range with me, carve wood with me, work on cars with me, do yard work with me—and now is wanting to go hunting with me.”

“I’d love to win this Henry rifle as a Christmas gift for my 13-year-old grandson. I taught his dad to shoot and respect the rules; his dad is teaching him the same thing. His dad (my son) is also an NRA member of several years standing, and the gift of a rifle for my grandson would be a good way to begin his own NRA membership.”

“Dear NRA: Thanks for the opportunity in possibly winning the Henry Lever Action Youth Model .22 rifle. I was planning on buying my son one when, like most unfortunate Americans, I got laid off from my job. My son still talks about it, but he understands and is good about it. If he wins this it would be an awesome Christmas gift. Thanks again for the opportunity.”

“This is the perfect starter gun for my eldest granddaughter. She is the daughter of a Marine (my eldest son) who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was honorably discharged at the end of his tour. She and her dad would be thrilled to start out her shooting experience with an American legend.”

The winner of the rifle, Bob Jerdon of Northampton, Pa., has plans to give it to his 9-year-old son for his 10th birthday. Fittingly, Mr. Jerdon was in a tree stand on the opening day of Pennsylvania’s firearms deer season when we notified him he had won the rifle.

In response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from last month’s giveaway, we are offering a SECOND Henry Youth Model .22 as our gift for the month of December. To get your name into the drawing, send an e-mail to huntersrights@nrahq.org and put “Gift Giveaway” in the subject line. We’ll draw the winner at random at the end of the month.

Even if your name isn’t drawn, please take the time to visit www.henryrifles.com, where you can get a free copy of Henry’s color catalog and see the full line of high-quality, American-made guns the company offers for kids and adults alike.

I would be proud to own this gun, with it's amazing history.

Isn't it every little girl's dream to own a Henry? However, I'm no longer a young girl, but some dreams never die!

The right to own a gun is becoming "history studies." This gun is a tribute to the men and women who fought to preserve our right to bare arms. Thank you for the opportunity to own and share our country's past with my children and their children. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I grew up loving the lever action rifle. I would be proud to win and own a Henry, and especially to win it from America's # 1 defender of our Second Amendment. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!

My cousin has a Henry .22 caliber long rifle. That little .22 action is slicker than greased lightining. I have a Marlin Model 39 that I polished the action parts on, but it still can't compare to the Henry. My first and only grandchild is now 14 months old and I'd like to have a little Henry to pass on to him when it is time. I always loved the old west and hopefully I can pass on my love of guns and the old west to my grandson. There seems to be no better way than by giving him a lever action rifle, and the Henry would be perfect, made in America by Americans.

I love my Henry. A real sweet shooter and a real beauty of a gun.

It was a trusted old Henry .22 with which I bagged my first jack rabbit @ 30 yards w/rabbit on the hop in thick brush. Easy to handle and an extremely accurate rifle. My son would love it.

I've always wanted to get a lever-action rifle. I'm an NRA lifer, military veteran, VFW lifer, and I have grandkids that would love to learn to shoot. The guns I do have are too heavy for them to learn on.

Looks great! Looks like a great gun for rabbits and squirrels and all other kinds of small game animals.

From Josiah on Friday, January 15, 2010 9:52 AM
Great looking rifle and one my 4 youngest grandsons would have to share at grandpa's farm. Most of the family hunts, even the girls, as the dad's see to that! Thanks NRA for all the work you do.

I love the Henry rifles. Makes me feel like one of my old cowboy heroes. I don't have kids...If I were to win this, I will raffle it at my shooting club.

My grandson is coming to age, and I'd like to introduce him to a great sport, and I know there is nothing better than a .22 lever action HENRY.

From Victor H. Diaz on Friday, January 15, 2010 9:49 AM
My 10-year-old daughter Crystal enjoys shooting very much and is very proud to be an "Army brat." If she wins this rifle she will be excited forever. Thank you for the opportunity, this is a beautiful rifle.

I live in the country here just outside of Ann Arbor, MI...and I would love to give my grandson this .22 to use to walk about with his grandfather teaching him gun safety. The times would be priceless.

I own this gun and gave it to my 13 year old son. Very smooth action and reliable, fun to shoot, another one to the collection would be nice.

Two grandchildren on the way--one in February and one in April. That Henry .22 would be perfect for getting them started in the right direction.

From Roger Test on Friday, January 15, 2010 9:46 AM
I have admired lever action rifles for a long time. They are a major part of American history and have a well deserved reputation.

Well, I'm certainly disappointed to have missed the chance to get one of these Henrys. I just recently bought one of their military commemorative edition .22 cal. for my son-in-law, a thrice deployed veteran (Kuwait and Iraq) of the U.S. Army medical corps, as a "thank you" for his service. And what a nice piece it is!!! At the same time, I got myself a plain old H001 Henry .22 cal. and a .357 mag. rifle. We have yet to shoot them, but I'm looking forward to it. Deer season is just now getting underway. Peace to all the peace givers!
